EIGHTIES Leighton pop icons Kajagoogoo are set for a shock comeback due to sudden "massive worldwide demand" – 19 years after their last chart hit.
The band – best remembered for their 1983 UK chart topper 'Too Shy' – are enjoying a similar revival to Duran Duran in countries like Japan, Germany and America.
Limahl, Nick, Jez, Steve and Stuart – now all in their 40s – have got the reality TV phenomenon to thank for the band's unlikely resurgence, after their appearance on VH1's 'Bands Reunited' programme last month in the US.
Bass player Nick Beggs, who moved back to Leighton five years ago after 17 years in London, revealed his surprise when the show's producers turned up on his doorstep.
"They completely caught me off guard," he said.
"The producers just turned up one day and said 'will you re-form the band for one night only, for VH1 America?'
"They said all the other guys had agreed to it, so I said yes."
The band were filmed performing as a five-piece for the first time in over 20 years at The Scala Club in London, which will be aired on VH1 in the UK on March 29.
And from the moment it was screened in the US, the band have been inundated with tour offers from promoters and requests for new material from fans on their website.
Nick, who took over as lead singer when Limahl left the band in 1984, said: "It's weird after 20 years, but people have gone crazy for us!
"We've been offered tours all over the US, including a gig in front of 200,000 people at the San Diego street festival.
"EMI are also re-releasing all three Kajagoogoo albums, and we'll be sending them some new material later this year which we hope to release."
But despite the success of their televised comeback gig, Nick, Steve and Stuart will not be joined by Limahl or drummer Jez for the band's future projects.
Nick, who has spent the past few years doing session work, writing songs, lecturing and writing for specialist music magazines, said: "It's a shame Limahl is not on board, but it's just like what happened 20 years ago.
"We couldn't agree to his demands."
Limahl is currently starring in a German reality TV programme called 'The Comeback Show', which is similar to 'Reborn in the USA'.
But despite the 80s heart throb's other work commitments, an insider revealed why he was discarded for a second time.
She said: "The band felt it would be too hard working with him again.
"They thought he might have changed, but just like the last time they got rid of him, he wanted more money than the rest of them."
You can see a feature on Nick's family life in Leighton and the band's fresh stab at stardom in OK! Magazine, either tomorrow (Wednesday) or in next week's edition.
